Dreamy

Winter Sunset, Lithuania | www.myfoododyssey.com

The evenings are getting shorter, there is a distinct chill in the air and golden trees are rapidly giving way to bare branches. After a mild and sunny September winter is suddenly closing in here in Lithuania. Much as I love warmth and sunshine I am very much looking forward to winter. We have a warm and cosy home. We have a wonderful new kitchen where I will make comforting stews and slow roasts. We have a stock of homemade wine and beer which we will sip curled up in our panoramic conservatory, looking out at the dreamy winter landscape. We will read, write, savour, enjoy. We are ready. Bring it on.

Beautiful photos-the world is an amazing place. This makes me miss the cool season. In Australia we are gearing up for a dry hot summer (yuck) and I’m already contingency planning and crossing fingers for rain for our pasture, veg garden and orchard.

    • Thanks! I hope you get the rain you need for your veggies. I’ll do an occasional rain dance for all you folk in need of water! (Keeps me fit, too!)

  2. We’re nearly ready for winter, like yourself can’t wait. Only problem is our kitchen won’t be ready we will have to make do with our 2 ring induction hob and no cooker to get through Christmas.

    • I remember a Christmas when the power went. One of the neighbours offered to cook the turkey (they’d cooked theirs the night before) and the rest we cooked on a gas camping ring in the middle of the kitchen flour. You’ll be fine!

Beautiful pictures, but alas I’m a California girl. I turn blue and freeze solid when it drops below eighty degrees. I’ll just enjoy your photos and your stories, lol.

    • You turn blue when it goes below 80F (26C)?! In Ireland we’d be lucky to have one single summer’s day that warm! Winter here goes to about -13F (-25C) – now THAT’s cold!

Burrrrr… Yep. I’d be a dead woman. I’ll enjoy your pictures from WAY afar, lol. (I’m actually being sarcastic. I can take down to about 74 degrees before I expire).
