To share or not to share – that is the question. What if I decide to run for President one day? What if my dad sees them? What if people raise their eyebrows and ask “Who does she think she is? And at her age?” Well, the chances of me running for President are slim, my dad has seen me naked and, as for any naysayers or begrudgers, I think I’ve finally reached a point in my life where I just don’t care what other people think of me – I’m pretty comfortable in my own skin.

As I approached my fortieth birthday earlier this year I began to panic that I was past my prime. My husband assured me that I’d never looked better – my hair was shiny, my skin was glowing and my body was fit and toned. He brushed aside my attempts to point out my wobbly bits and age spots, insisting the changes we’d made in our lives over the past few years had done me the world of good, both physically and emotionally. When my birthday finally arrived he told me he was taking me out for the day and that I needed to bring a bikini. The day would be starting with a massage, after which he had a big surprise planned. And a big surprise it was.

After a fantastically relaxing massage, Arūnas told me he had arranged for a photo shoot. But not just any photo shoot – a naked photo shoot. What?! Me?! Don’t you know I don’t like having my photo taken? And naked – are you mad?! He wanted me to see how beautiful I really was and how my wobbly bits were a figment of my imagination. Thank goodness I’d just had a massage or I think I would have seized up in panic!

As it turned out I found the whole experience fun and relaxing. The make-up artist and photographer were both brilliant and totally put me at ease. We started with shorts and t-shirts and gradually worked our way from there. And when we got the proofs from the photographer I could finally see what Arūnas was talking about. I really was in pretty good shape. Yes, I have a few laughter lines around my eyes and my stomach is not as taut as it once was, but on the whole, I’m not so bad.

These minimalist photos are really just for me and my wonderful husband but I have chosen a few to share. No sniggering, please!

    • Thanks! I guess it feels a bit old when you hit it, but ask me again in 10 years!

      • I’m 48. 😛 Started last year to take nude pictures of myself because I saw the pictures of another woman and she assured me, it was fun to take them. They are okay. I don’t look like a 20 years old girl of course. But it’s okay. Seeing myself from a different angle was reassuring somehow. Nothing bad happens to us at the “full ages”. At 30 at 40 and I bet nothing will happen at 50. It’s just numbers.

  4. You look fabulous.

I, on the other hand, would murder my husband! But then, I am past 40 😉 I’d also need about a year or two to prepare.

Belated happy birthday and the 40s are great btw.
