On the Way

Rioja, Spain | www.myfoododyssey.com

I love a good road trip. I love wide, open spaces and diverse scenery. I would far sooner be in a car travelling through stunning countryside than on a city tour, no matter how beautiful the architecture. Some of the most surprising and spectacular sights are between places of interest rather than in them. These are some of my favourite “on the way” shots from our European road trip two summers ago. Taken in Rioja, Spain, within a 15 minute period, they demonstrate the enormous variety of landscapes in the region. Think we might be due another visit.

  1. That first large shot of the road running out across the valley floor, that’s the kind of stuff that makes me crazy in a good way. I LOVE a road trip. Great shots!

    • It goes on and on like that for hours, Kim! If Michigan ever gets boring I seriously recommend it!

  2. Beautiful photos, makes me want to visit. I agree with you I too enjoy the wide open spaces of the countryside. Cities are beautiful in their own way, but now I enjoy the peace and solitude of the country.

    • If you haven’t been to Spain I heartily recommend it. Skip the cities and drive through the countryside – it’s absolutely stunning.

    • We may have had a glass or two. Sure, it would have been rude not to!

  5. beautiful photos 🙂 Speaking of nature vs. cities/architecture I’m always on an edge. On the one hand I love nature, on the other, I do love exploring new cities and enjoy beautiful centuries old architecture. Thus it’s always a challenge when drawing some plans for traveling to reach a perfect balance. Especially since my co-travelers are usually a mix of ‘only nature’ and ‘only cities’ 🙂
Anyway, after years of being my own route planner, guide and driver for a weekend trip, this year round I’m going for a ‘boring’ option and have bought myself a bus trip just to see how I’m going to like it as opposed to DIY option

  6. Looks remarkably like the ‘Ring of Kerry’…except for the Vineyard of course…and you’re driving on the wrong side of the road!!

    • Looks like Kerry – except for the vineyard and the blue sky! And how can the right side be the wrong side?! 😉
