Below is the route we followed on our food odyssey. The section in blue has already been covered. The section in red is next on our list – we plan to cover this as soon as our new house is finished. As well as looking at food culture we visited a number of wine regions. Click on the map to go to the interactive version, where you can get additional information about the locations we traveled through.
Our future route is still not finalised, so any suggestions on places to include / avoid, etc. would be very gratefully received – please use the Comments feature below to leave your suggestions.

My Food Odyssey 
I wonder did you made your italian trip? From lake Garda down to the Sicily, that’s a hell lot of trip. We liked both parts of Italy but Venice was real diamond there. Good luck !

No, we never did make it to Italy. We were hoping to do it this coming summer but we ran into problems with our camper (the steering wheel is on the wrong side, so we can’t insure it here) so we had to sell it. We’re hoping to get a replacement fairly soon. Yeh, we know the distances are huge. We don’t really mind distances – we both like being on the road. You get to see such beautiful and interesting places that normally you might miss. Thanks for stopping by the blog!

Yep! We hope to do al least a bit of it this summer, renovations permitting. It really is the best fun ever and I can’t wait to get back on the road!

I’ve updated the map to reflect the fact that we’ve decided to split the trip into two legs, taking a break in Lithuania in July. This is primarily due to lack of air-conditioning and good insulation in the van, which meant we were sweltering in the mid-summer heat down south. We hope to install air-conditioning before we head off again.

I finally got round to updating the map. We’ve pretty much stuck to the original plan so far, except that we moved faster through France than expected due to poor weather. We’ll be back there later when it starts to get hot down south. The parts of the route we’ve covered are now marked in blue.
Don’t forget to pass on any suggestions you might have, especially for foods we should not miss!

The whole itinerary is making me green with envy, but no part more so than the route through France….! I see your route takes you through the Langue D’oc region; the Saturday market at Pezenas is a must see! Fabulous range of local produce – mainly food. Also, the nearby village of Magalas is home to the most amazing restaurant, O Bontemps, surely one of the best culinary treats I have ever experienced. Books out several weeks in advance…. Bon Voyage!

Thanks Aud! It looks like we’ll be travelling right past Pezenas and Magalas so I’ll add those to the itinerary. I though O Bontemps might be a bit pricy for those on a budget, but looks like there are lots of options to chose from. Looks tasty, too!

You’re making me jealous now June. Great blog, great trip, great idea. Have a blast. I don’t blame you for going through France twice. Some of the best food I have tasted ever was in a small local restaurant in a small French town somewhere. I’ll bet it’s the same everywhere.
