Blur

Surfing on Manly Beach in Sydney, Australia | www.myfoododyssey.com

When do you stop being a kid and start being an adult? Eighteen? Twenty One?

Sometimes when I look in the mirror I don’t see an adult. I see the same feisty girl who went off to college at 17, full of hopes and dreams and aspirations. She was adventurous and always game to try new things. She wasn’t particularly interested in fashion and wore jeans and a t-shirt like a uniform.

That girl graduated from college in 1995 – 20 years ago this year. I have no idea where all that time has gone. I know that girl has seen and done a lot of things, but to me she’s still the same girl. She’s still feisty, adventurous and full of hopes and dreams. She’s still trying new things. And she still lives in jeans and a t-shirt, but she’s traded in her doc martin boots for a pair of wellingtons.

Photos taken with our travel camera on Manly beach in Sydney, Australia. I’m very happy to have these photos as my recollection of this surfing is a complete blur – it was the fastest 15 minutes of my life!

It’s amazing that I just turned 46! I still feel like I’m so much younger. Sometimes I wonder how I’ll feel when I’m 70. Will I still feel young at heart? I do know I’m tired of thinking I’m too old to do things and then I think if I had done whatever it is 5 years ago I somehow wasn’t too old then. I’m happy to hear you still feel young at heart too!

46 is still very young – you can still do ANYTHING! I hope you do still feel the same way when you’re 70!

I hope I never stop having moments of being a kid. I think they are the strength that help us through the times when being a responsible adult is essential but all overwhelming 🙂

Well now, there’s a delightful blast from the past! Good to hear from you. I can’t believe you have my shoes – that’s too funny! If they’re still there when you’re next home maybe put them aside for me – I might plant something in them! I was actually only thinking of you the other day. I was sweltering with the heat working in our new polytunnel and I remembered how you used to complain about being stuck in yours for hours picking mushrooms. I’m tempted to try growing mushrooms but I think they might need a different kind of tunnel – I must look into it. Anyway, thanks for stopping by the blog. Keep in touch, J.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, and I’m 48 lol. But I think I’m honing in on it, finally.

The truth is we all are 10 years old at heart. I have never lost touch with the child in me ( lil’Hungry Breton) it keeps me sane. On the plus side, we have loads to talk about now! 🙂

Go girlie! You will always be that spirited 17 year old. Let no-one squish it out of you and if they try – put on those old DMs and kick em into touch 😉

Thanks Osyth! You know, I have been considering getting a new pair of DMs. I used to love them so much. I even wore a pair of ox blood shoes to school and managed to get away with it! There are some really pretty ones now that are not too clunky. Who says they’re just for tweenies?!

Go for it! My best friend wore Flowered ones to our wedding two years ago and my daughter has pink patent ones. For me – I have asked me hubby to bring me some from the US next time – they are pound for dollar priced so cheaper there (which is wholly wrong but there we go). Expect an update on yours very soon!!

I think lots of people would see the way you live as adventurous and call you brave for living in LT. 🙂 But I am not sure following your heart is that brave, it is really just what I have done.

I agree, T – I didn’t find it all that scary, so don’t really consider myself brave for doing it. But I definitely have an adventurous streak – and I ain’t done yet!
