Amalgamation

I have spread myself too thin. Somehow I have ended up with 5 Facebook pages, 2 Twitter accounts and 2 blogs, none of which is currently well attended. So, in an attempt to simplify my life, I am cutting back! Read more

Crested Tits & Fairy Lights

The weather here in Lithuania is currently not playing ball. I was promised discreet seasons – snow, spring, sun, autumn. That was the deal. That was why I left rainy ole Ireland. (Well, no, but it was certainly part of it!) Read more

Round and Round

The veg patch has been ploughed, the clocks have rolled back and the flocks of geese and cranes have ceased their noisy flyovers on their way to warmer parts. A cosy space has been prepared in a shed for our beautiful goat, Julė, to spend her nights protected from the cold and rain, and with the feast of Samhain, we enter the dark half of the year. Stuck In The Mud

I consider myself a tough ole bird. I’m fairly adventurous so I often get myself into a pickle. Most of the time I just remain calm, think through the situation logically and find a way out. Other times though, I get stuck. Sometimes quite literally. Read more

Growing Veg 2017/#3 – A Poor Year

Solitude

Sometimes you just need to get away on your own, to stare far into the distance, listening to the lapping of water and the chatter of seagulls. I grew up within sight of the sea and I am still drawn to the beach when I need some time alone. Read more

Winter Magic

Winter can be dull and gloomy, especially after the festive lights of Christmas have come down. Days are short and cold. Snow falls, making simple jobs like walking the dog or getting to the shops more difficult. But then the sun comes out. And magic happens… Read more

Ambience

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
