Lovely Old Face

He’s getting older by the day. We can see it in his face. His eyes look tired and a little melancholic. Except, that is, when it’s time for a walk or when he’s presented with a juicy bone. His freckles and grey hairs have become more prominent, giving him the look of a wise old man. We can see it in his energy levels and the amount of time he spends napping. He’s nearly 100 in dog years so he’s doing well to be as fit and able as he is. But he’s slowing down. He’s well loved and contented. What a lovely old face he has.

For a moment there I thought you were talking about me.. until you got to the juicy bone part !!
Have dropped in from time to time to steal your recipes, having a love Lithuanian food developed after visiting LT a couple of years ago to visit my bro in law. He moved from Australia to Klaipeda with his (Lithuanian) wife 3 years ago, and we have visited them every year since then. They have moved to Lazdininkai, so we are looking forward to another Christmas in LT this year in their new (old) house…..

Thanks for dropping by the blog! Glad you’re enjoying the recipes. I hope to add a few more LT recipes in the near future. Lazdininkai looks like a nice spot – not too far from the coast. I’m sure you’ll have a lovely Christmas there.

What fine photos of a great member of the household! We have Penny, a 60# rescue dog whom we adopted when she was 5 years old. She is coming up on 9 now and has the same kind of peaceful, loving look about her face. What is your doggie’s name?

He’s Džekis, Frances. (Pronounced Jekis, for non-Lithuanians!) We only have him a few years – he’s a family dog that kinda fell into our care – but he really has become part of the family. Dogs are awesome.

Frances’ sister here. My daughter has a dog named Jake and I sometimes make it Jakus to sound Lithuanian.

I like Jakus – it’s more unusual, especially in the U.S.!

Always surprises me how much we can love our four-legged family. Apparent that this old man has had a wonderful life and still enjoys being a dog. You are both blessed to have each other. Enjoy every day.

Love those rebellious ears – they stop him from looking too saintly 😉

He’s far from saintly! Those ears can be pretty expressive – they change completely when he goes into “alert” mode. I like that he’s a little rough around the edges – gives him character. (Reminds me of me, I guess!)

Thanks Miriam. He definitely gets lots of love – he might even be a bit spoiled. But he’s worth it.

I know what you mean. You can’t have a dog that cute and not spoil him! 🙂
